Childcare Scholarships Available

Scholarships are available to assist with the cost of child care for both Blackbird Childcare Center and The Harborage.  Applications are considered four times throughout the year and are handled in a confidential manner.  We encourage our families to reach out if in need.  Our goal is to provide high quality child care to as many families as possible.  See application form below for instructions.  If you, or your organization, are interested in donating to the childcare scholarship fund, please contact Michael Behrmann, Superintendent of Schools, 231-526-4540, mbehrmann@harborps.org.

2022 Undergraduate Awards

Citizenship Award

These students are regarded by both our staff and their peers as dependable; they demonstrate respect for people, property, and the law. In their relationships with other students and adults, they are courteous, helpful, and caring. In the classroom and the community, these young adults continually strive to the limits of their abilities to achieve both personal and academic goals that are within their reach.

These students readily and unselfishly help others at home, at school, and in the community to a degree that is judged exceptional. They demonstrate an ability to work with and motivate others, they have sound values, good judgment, and a sense of fairness.

Juniper Rodham, Grade 9

Juni is a bright light and a true joy to have in class by bringing a smile and positive attitude to class everyday. Teachers usually greet their students but with Juni we do not get that chance. Most often, she  beats us to the punch as she greets her teachers properly with a big smile on her face. She engages others and makes everyone in her presence feel seen and valued. She works well with everyone in class and always advocates for herself and others. Juni is the classmate that everyone loves to have.

Jenna Blanck, Grade 10

Jenna is an enthusiastic student who is an avid supporter of her classmates. Her liveliness and good nature are an excellent addition to the classroom. Jenna’s positivity spreads through all of the activities that she involves herself in. Her commitment to bettering the atmosphere at Harbor Springs High School is evident in every interaction. Jenna serves as a leader in her extracurricular activities, and her passion for things such as student leadership and performing arts is infectious, raising the energy of everyone around her.

Sam Harrell, Grade 11

Sam is well-deserving of this citizen award. He excels not only in the classroom but also in many different arenas – football field, quiz bowl competitions, and creating new extracurricular opportunities for all students. Sam is involved in almost everything HSHS has to offer and puts forth 100% effort in every initiative. Sam is kind, helpful, and encourages his classmates to strive for their best. He has a positive presence in the classroom and does everything in his power to create a better culture at Harbor Springs High School.

Honor Student Award

Each year the staff identifies one student in each class who exemplifies the highest standards in education.  The honor student is selected because they demonstrate every characteristic of scholarship as well as high moral character.  These students are bright, eager to learn, and full of wonder.  Their attributes also include integrity, courage, fortitude, honesty, and loyalty. This is, however, not all that makes them honor students.  All three of these young people also greet us each day with acceptance, a smile, open minds, and graciousness.  They have earned this honor with much more than good grades – they have earned it with good hearts.

Sofia Summers, Grade 9

Sofia is a rarity as a student and every teachers dream. Her comprehension levels and skillset are off of the charts, but she doesn’t rest on her natural abilities. She brings a sense of wonder to her learning while truly seeking to grow her knowledge. She works exceptionally hard to dig deeper, to comprehend the work on a deeper level, and to develop her critical thinking skills. She is blessed with natural abilities, but complements them with outstanding effort to constantly better herself.

Averie Metiva, Grade 10

Averie maintains and achieves high academic success in all of her classes. She is quiet and tends to go “under the radar.” Therefore, it can be very easy to unknowingly overlook her achievements, academic accolades, and work ethic. Yet, this award allows her to be publicly recognized for everything she has accomplished thus far. Her teachers see her achievements and appreciate her as a well rounded student with a bright future.

Josie Baker, Grade 11

When Josie enters the room, she fills it with positivity. She knows who she is and what she wants to accomplish. She always strives to do her best and meets challenges head-on. She takes the time to truly understand an assignment and when she completes it, she does not hesitate to help others around her if needed. As a leader in and out of the classroom, she has worked tirelessly to maintain good grades, serve on student council, and participate in sports and other clubs.
