Annalisa Kilar – Social Studies

Welcome to middle school social studies! I've been teaching in Harbor Springs since 2006.  I completed my Bachelor's degree at Northern Michigan University with majors in History and Spanish. I received my Master's degree in Reading and Literacy from Central Michigan University in 2010. I love to teach; I am very proud of my profession. I live in Petoskey with my husband Chris and our two daughters Hadley and Harper. We love living in northern Michigan and get out to enjoy everything this beautiful area has to offer. I look forward to a fantastic school year at Harbor Springs Middle School.

6th Grade Social Studies

Sixth grade social studies is an active, hands on journey focusing on both physical and human geography.  Students will explore natural and human-made features while asking questions about land-use and point of view.  This class entails reading and interpreting a variety of maps, charts, labs, and case studies. The skills that you develop in this course apply to other core subjects, such as math, science, and language arts.  Studying geography helps us see just how we are interconnected with other people and events of the world.

7th Grade Social Studies

Seventh grade social studies is an active, hands on journey focusing on the beginnings of the human story. Students will explore the great early civilizations of Egypt and the Near East, India, China, Greece, and Rome. Students will discover the secrets of these ancient cultures that continue to influence the modern world.
