Excellence in Character – Excellence in Education

HSMS Weekly Announcements

Congratulations on successfully completing a very challenging school year! Our staff would like to thank you for your flexibility, patience, kindness, and support while we navigated the challenges of new safety policies, school closures, quarantines, online platforms, and more!

2021-22 Schedules
2021-22 student schedules can be accessed on PowerSchool under the “next year’s schedule” tab. Please email Mrs. McShannack at mmcshannock@harborps.org if you have questions. Incoming fifth grade students will learn how to login and navigate PowerSchool at the start of the school year. In addition, there will be a parent technology night in the fall so middle school parents can learn tips in navigating PowerSchool and various middle school online textbooks and programs.

Understanding the Middle School Schedule
5th Grade
Fifth graders rotate through music, art, and physical education/health every day during first hour. Second hour is a rotation through technology, math lab, and ELA lab. Third through sixth hours are academic classes: math, science, social studies, and ELA.

6th Grade
Sixth graders have academic classes (math, science, social studies, and ELA) during their first, second, fifth, and sixth hours. They rotate through art, physical education/health, and Mrs. McShannock’s class every three weeks during third hour. During the first quarter of the year, all sixth grade students will have the opportunity to learn about middle school band during fourth hour. From the second quarter on, students will either elect to stay in band or take a general technology/general music course.

7th & 8th Grade
Seventh and eighth grade students have academic classes first through fourth hours and electives fifth and sixth hours. Students with electives that meet at the high school fifth hour will ride the shuttle bus to the high school after fourth hour, eat lunch in the high school cafeteria, and stay there for class. A shuttle bus will run after fifth hour and again at the end of the day.

2021-22 Bell Schedule
HSMS will be on the same schedule as HSHS next year. Classes are 60 minutes long, and there is no seminar class.
